Founder's Story
Music is in my blood!
This is the story of a man who came from humble beginnings. Born in Latakia, Syria, Mo always loved music, gravitating towards it from an early age. As a child, Mo had a melodica (a keyboard that produces music by blowing into it). On hearing this marvellous sound, Mo dedicated entire days and nights learning to master his melodica. He would go from room to room, around the house, up and down, playing it all day; he drove everyone around him crazy, literally.
By the time he’d turned twelve, Mo felt the itch to move up from his faithful melodica and decided on getting a keyboard. There was one catch. He needed to convince his father, as he was the sole breadwinner in the family. Mo had little choice. He begged his father to get him a keyboard. But this was no easy task. It took Mo two years to wear his father down, dropping hints at first, until the hints became nags. Eventually, through sheer persistence, Mo landed his first real keyboard.
There was a lovely Russian music teacher living in Latakia at the time, who gave Mo his first run at music lessons. Mo was hooked! He knew, deep down, he had found magic; music would be in his life, always.
Over the years, Mo moved on from his lessons to dabbling in bands. Mo’s technique improved, and he began playing in different bands around town. There was a high demand for agile keyboard players. His first big break came when a famous Syrian singer called Mustafa Youzbashi spotted him playing keys. Mustafa was blown away, and rewarded Mo by asking him to come along and join the tour. Before long, Mo had established himself as a fully-fledged member of the band.
And so it came to pass. Mustafa and his band of merry men played all over Syria, and Mo’s skills grew from strength to strength.
Meanwhile, Mo’s brother had made his way to London to find fame and fortune. In 1998, Mo paid his brother a visit. Mo thought it would be a good idea to come to the UK, and pick up English during his stay; he could barely string a sentence. He thought he’d stick around for six months or so, before heading back to Syria, to resume his music career there.
These things rarely go to plan…
Mo was mesmerised by London’s culture: the sights, the sounds, the tastes, the smells, and the wealth of opportunity. A few months into his London trip, Mo met the woman of his dreams; she captivated his soul, he knew she was the one.
Over twenty years came and went. Mo’s still here and he never looked back since that fateful day. Of course, he was homesick, and at times felt the desire to return, especially since the war had flared up, but he knew that had he gone back he would have lived a life of regret.
Luckily, things worked out well for Mo.
Eventually, Mo popped the question, and they got married her. Mo settled down, and, with D, they bought a house together. Now, they have a new addition: a beautiful vibrant daughter; the loves of his life, under one roof, the driving force behind everything he does.
As an experienced musician, Mo has gigged extensively, specialising in keyboard, playing at London’s finest restaurants, performing at concerts, weddings, and private parties. Being a musician and a performer, Mo knows and appreciates attaining the perfect sound at an event, where one can enjoy playing to an audience without technical glitches, and the audience, in turn, can appreciate his musicianship and the concert.
With music in his blood, Mo built a superb studio from scratch, with all the frills attached: mixing room, live room, and a spare room, which he currently rents out. This studio complex became the epicentre of Mo’s existence.
His passion extends beyond performance, and has been a proven producer since the naughties, which enabled Mo to set up Arabic Recording Studios in 2010. This logical point of evolution also led to a natural move into equipment rental and sowed the seeds for the birth of Mo-AV Productions in 2013.
